Nigel Flear grew up in the town of Caledon Village, northwest of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 2002, he completed a degree in Computer Science (Bachelor of Mathematics), with a minor in Psychology at the University of Waterloo. Following that, he attended teacher’s college at the University of Ottawa, receiving a degree in 2003 (Bachelor of Education). He very quickly realized that being a teacher was a crazy idea and returned to his original career path. He works at the Canadian Psychological Association as their in-house information-technology guy. Nigel spends way too much time volunteering for Egale Canada, an advocacy group for LGBT people, where he started as a volunteer webmaster, later worked as Office Manager, and currently is President. He enjoys volunteering and likes to think of himself as a small-time social activist. For some time he has focused his volunteer energy on LGBT equality, education, and community building. While at university, he was a regular contributor to the student newspaper Imprint and was the head coordinator of Gays & Lesbians of Waterloo. Nigel also enjoys genealogy and has set up the Flear.ca webspace to share the family research he and others have built. These days, he enjoys spending time with his friends, traveling, checking Facebook, going to the gym (as if he will ever gain weight), gardening at his ex-partner's home in Nepean, and creating new websites. Some other hobbies he enjoys include ballroom dancing, photography, playing the piano, reading non-fiction, and organizing things. |
